The Jo Cox Foundation has founded the Connection Coalition

April 22, 2020

The Jo Cox Foundation has founded the Connection Coalition alongside Mind, The British Red Cross, Facebook, Age UK, Nesta, Nationbuilder and The Cares Family.

The Founding members are convening this cross-sector coalition to coordinate, amplify and inspire efforts to reinforce meaningful connections. In doing so, we will mitigate the impact of isolation throughout the Covid-19 and harness the power of strong relationships and connections for the future.

Why now?

Since the start of Covid-19, many people have reached out and are supporting their neighbours and communities in creative and inspiring ways. For many people this is nothing new, but for some this is a new and deep experience of community connectedness. More than ever we are seeing that reciprocal relationships build solidarity, belonging and the belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. Britain will be a changed country as a result of Covid-19, but it will have changed for the better if people are ready to build and strengthen the connections within society that bind us together.

Who are the Members of the Connection Coalition?

The Jo Cox Foundation has founded the Connection Coalition alongside Mind, The British Red Cross, Facebook, Age UK, Nesta, Nationbuilder and The Cares Family.

The Founding members are convening this cross-sector coalition to coordinate, amplify and inspire efforts to reinforce meaningful connections. In doing so, we will mitigate the impact of isolation throughout the Covid-19 and harness the power of strong relationships and connections for the future.

What impact does the Connection Coalition seek?

The impact we seek is two-fold:

Immediate. By bringing together and coordinating those building social connections during a time of physical distancing, we can catalyse collaborative efforts to build strong connections and meaningful relationships.
Longer-term. We are going to be living in a different kind of country after the crisis is over. We can build a better future for everyone by building strong relationships and connected communities now.

What will the Connection Coalition do?

The Connection Coalition is guided by the expertise and needs of our members. At this stage we are bringing organisations together to collaborate and share expertise, creativity, tools and ideas for ways to build connection.

Rooted in this action we will share a message of hope by lifting up the voices of all those who are building connections in their communities. Through storytelling and sharing a message of hope we aim to inspire people to build and maintain strong reciprocal social relationships now and in the future.

Can I sign up? And how?

If you are an organisation, charity, group or company or any other organised entity and share our belief that our communities are strengthened by strong relationships and connections, we’d love you to join us. In signing up you’ll be part of a growing network of those who share your belief in the power of connection.

Together we will find ways to amplify your expertise, share, celebrate the connections being made in communities, inspire even more people to reach out and form connections and strive to ensure that the connections and friendships made in communities now are sustained beyond the immediate crisis. Each member brings their own expertise, knowledge and stories. We look forward to working with you to share, learn, act and connect together.
